Jacob Blattenberger [Parents] was born on 22 Jan 1831 in Hershey, Dauphin Co., PA. He died on 28 Mar 1905 in Markes, Franklin Co., PA and was buried in Apr 1905 in Spring Grove Cemetery, Lemasters, Franklin Co., PA. Jacob married Frances "Fanny" Cromer on 18 Dec 1855 in St. Thomas, Franklin Co., PA.

It is believed that Jacob Blattenberger was born near Hershey, PA. He came to Peters Township in Franklin Co., PA at the age of 16.

Jacob served in the Civil War and fought in the battle of Gettysburg. His name is on the Pennsylvania monument on the Gettysburg battlefield.

Additional Notes on Jacob Blattenberger:
Jacob enlisted on 19 Sep. 1862 in the Civil War most likely because of the threat of Confederate invasion. Two days prior to his enlistment, the deadliest day of the war - the Battle of Antietim - was fought near by in Maryland. Jacob was a member of Company H, 16th Pennsylvania Cavalry (161st Regiment Pa. Regiment). According to his pension records, he was shot in the right index finger during the Battle of Hartwood Church, Virginia in February 1863 and was treated by a regimental surgeon. He suffered no further wounds in the war. The 16th Pa Cavalry spent most of its time in the Virginia campaigns. Jacob mustered out as a Corporal on 16 June 1865. His name on the Pennsylvania Monument at Gettysburg reads "J Bluntenberger". Jacob's brother-in-law, John Cromer, fought in the same regiment. William Frieze McLaughlin was born January 26, 1867, in Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, the first of 5 children of James Green McLaughlin and Anna Frances Frieze McLaughlin. He was also the grandson of Jacob Frieze/Freeze and Susanna Wertz/Wortz Frieze. On November 17, 1887, in Ft. Loudon, Franklin County, he married Anna Hall Blattenberger, daughter of John P. and Anna Light Blattenberger. They were the parents of 14 children: Ada Ruth, Clara Frances, Harriet Viola, Charles Green, Susan Louisa, Paul, Florence, Mary Edith, Edgar William, Estella May, Maude Ester, David Franklin, Anna Blattenberger and Nellie Josepine McLaughlin. William Frieze McLaughlin passed away June 2, 1925, in Washington Township, Franklin County, and was buried on the 4th in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

(Note: The above biography of William Frieze Mc Laughlin shows that the parents of his wife, Anna Hall Blattenberger, were John P. and Anna Light Blattenberger, which is incorrect. Anna was the daughter of Jacob and Fannie (Cromer) Blattenberger.

PAUL, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. F. McLaughlin, of the White Mill, near Roadside, died Monday morning, of congestion of the lungs, after a severe attack of measles.

Paul was a bright, interesting little fellow, and his death falls heavily upon his fond parents who in the hour of their affliction will have the tendered sympathy of their friends.

Funeral services were held yesterday morning, at 9 o'clock, with services at the house, and interment in Burn's Hill Cemetery.

Anna Blattenberger McLaughlin was born October 7, 1907, at Roadside, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, the 13th of 14 children of William Frieze McLaughlin and Anna Hall Blattenberger McLaughlin. She was also the granddaughter of James Green McLaughlin and Anna Frances Frieze McLaughlin. She never married. She took her own life on April 27, 1961, in Waynesboro, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, and was buried on the 30th in Burns Hill Cemetery there.

Miss Anna B. McLaughlin, 53, Tomstown, Waynesboro Route 1, hanged herself in the attic of the home of her sister, Mrs. Mary Avey, with whom she made her home for the past eight years. She was found at 7:30 p.m. Thursday by Mrs. Avey. She had been in ill health for several years.

She was born at Roadside, the daughter of William F. and Anna H. Blattenberger McLaughlin. The family moved to Waynesboro in the late 1920s.

Miss McLaughlin was a graduate of Waynesboro High School and was employed at the Waynesboro First National Bank and Trust Company as a stenographer for 25 years. She was a member of the Lutheran Church. She is survived by these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Clara F. Null, Waynesboro Route 4; Mrs. Hattie Bonner, Quincy; Mrs. Susan Rabette and Mrs. C. R. Krise, both of Baltimore; Mrs. Buford Mentzer, Sr., Orrtanna Route 1; Mrs. Avey, Waynesboro Route 1; Edward W. McLaughlin, Mrs. H. C. Funk and Mrs. E. C. Clopper, all of Waynesboro, and D. Frank McLaughlin, Blue Ridge Summit.

Private funeral services Sunday at 2 p.m. from the Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro, conducted by Pastor Glenn L. Stahl. Burial in Burns Hill Cemetery. The family requests omission of flowers. There will be no viewing.
