Frederick Blair Hyssong, 63, 2610 Dysart avenue, well-known member of the Altoona works police department and a former captain in the city fire department, died suddenly shortly before 7 o'clock yesterday morning at the South Altoona foundry.Mr. Hyssong had just reported to begin his day's work at the foundry entrance gates and was changing into his police uniform when stricken. He was pronounced dead when examined by a physician from the railroad company's medical department.
He was born in Altoona, Aug. 13, 1884, a son of George L. and Margaret (Forney) Hyssong and had been a member of the Altoona Works Police Department for the past 25 years. Before his railroad service he had served as Captain of Company 5 in the city Fire Department for 16 years.
Mr. Hyssong was first married to Florence T. Edwards and then to Jennie Blattenberger. Both wives preceded him in death. He was a member of Temple Lutheran Church.
Surviving are three sons and three daughters, George D. Hyssong, Altoona; John F., Harrisburg; Thomas L., at home; Miss Margaret M., and Mrs. Florence M. Shields, both of Altoona; and Mrs. Nellie F. Beaver, Mt. Rainier, Md.
Friends will be received at the Laughlin Funeral home.
