Richard C. Werkheiser, Sr., 78, of Northampton, passed away Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at Gracedale.Born: In Nazareth on February 05, 1932, he was a son of the late Nevin and Nettie Bender Werkheiser.
Personal: He was the husband of Betty Markle Werkheiser with whom he celebrated 57 years of marriage on February 14th.
Richard worked as a truck driver for Eastern Industries for 15 years before retiring in 1994. Previously, he worked as a truck driver for Trumbower's Coal for 30 years. Richard enjoyed woodworking and he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Memberships: He was a former member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Nazareth.
Survivors: In addition to his loving wife, Betty, he is survived by son, Richard C. Werkheiser, Jr. and his wife, Deborah of Northampton; four daughters, Bonnie Hooper and her husband, Donald of Lehighton, Rosanna Daniels and her husband, Larry of Ashfield, Deborah Fogel and her husband, Bruce of Belfast and Crystal Werkheiser and her companion, Daniel of Northampton; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Franklin Werkheiser and his wife, Laura and Paul Werkheiser and his wife, Melrose all of Nazareth; two sisters, Mabel Rapp of Phillipsburg, NJ and Darlene Frashing and her husband, Richard of Bath; many nieces and nephews. Richard was predeceased by a brother, Nevin Werkheiser and three sisters: Mae, Gertie and Kathy, as well as a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Services: A memorial service in celebration of Richard's life will held next Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Zion's Stone United Church of Christ, 51 Church Road, Northampton (Kreidersville), PA 18067. Interment will be private. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the George G. Bensing Funeral Home, Inc., 2165 Community Drive, Route 946, Village of Moorestown Bath, PA 18014. Memorials: May be made in memory of Richard to the VNA of St. Luke's Hospice, 1510 Valley Center Parkway, Suite 200, Bethlehem, PA 18017.

Richard J. Schmidt, 54, of 446 Union St., Nazareth, died Wednesday in St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of Kathryn (Werkheiser) Schmidt.He was a welder for Interstate Tank Center Inc., Bath. He previously was a truck driver for Rollin-Johnson, Nazareth.
Born in Wilson, he was a son of the late Russell S. and Eliza B. (Harman) Schmidt.
He was mayor of Delphos, Kan., 1979-83, and former sheriff of Delphos County.
He was a Navy veteran of the Korean conflict.
Surviving with his widow are three daughters, Cynthia, residence unknown, Jan, wife of Dale Shaw of Fort Ann, N.Y., and Susan of Delphos; a son Russell of Delphos; four sisters, Elizabeth, wife of Rudolph Weber Jr. of Fullerton, Mary Jane, wife of Alfred Kroboth of Whitehall Township, Murrell Keller of Nazareth and Phyllis Serano of Bethlehem; a stepson, Richard Knauss, at home; three stepdaughters, Judy and Sandra, both at home, and Susan, wife of John Higgs of Nazareth; two grandchildren and a step-grandson.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Bartholomew-Schisler Funeral Home, 211 E. Center St., Nazareth. A calling hour will precede the services.
